Handmade by Koko Mosaico, using the direct technique on cement mortar.

The wooden frame is painted with acrylics, cement mortar, gold, and smalti tesserae cut by hand with the use of ancient mosaic tools, the hammer, and hardie.

The smalti is from Orsoni, the historical Venetian furnace that has been using the same techniques since 1888 to produce 24K gold leaf mosaics, colored gold, and Venetian smalti.

This flower, identified as Rock roses, can be admired in the majestic apsidal conch of Sant'Apollinare in Classe. It portrays a wood that is no longer there and used to surround the basilica—a large green space populated by trees and animals.
