Handmade by Koko Mosaico, Ravenna's techique, direct method on lime. 

Honeycomb panel, precious marble and smalti tesserae cut by hand with the ancient tools, the hammer and the hardie.

Handmade frame created by with cement mortar and marble powders. 

The mosaic is grouted and has been smoothed by hand.

The artwork represents a mermaid, copy of a fragment of an ancient floor dating back to the 13th century preserved in the Basilica of San Giovanni Evangelista, Ravenna, beautifully decorated with images of the courts of the time, depicting stories of ladies and knights, fantastic and grotesque animals, and links to the Crusades.
