Piccoli Mosaici – Tokyo, 2019
On the occasion of the exhibition Piccoli Mosaici in Tokyo, Arianna Gallo created a series of small-scale works, all made using the opus vermiculatum technique, with the aim and desire of accompanying the Japanese audience on an imaginary journey across Italy, from North to South: from the Asarotos Oikos of Aquileia to the Lovers of Piazza Armerina, passing through the Labyrinth of the Soul in Ravenna. Each work emerges from the meeting of the study of ancient mosaics and personal memory: details inspired by Ravenna, Aquileia, Pompeii, Rome and the Villa del Casale intertwine with travel memories, restoration experiences and moments of everyday life.
The result is a collection of precious artoworks that narrate Italian culture through symbols of hospitality, landscape, myth and tradition, transforming fragments of history into intimate narratives.
